Regulatory Copper — What You Need to Know
Free · Limited seats · Register early
Overview
Copper compounds are among the most widely used active substances in European plant protection — and among the most closely scrutinised. Their 2018 renewal under Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 introduced strict dose restrictions and ongoing review conditions that continue to shape how these products can be used across the EU, particularly in organic farming.
This briefing provides a clear, expert-led overview of where copper stands today in the EU regulatory framework: the current approval conditions, the ecotoxicological concerns driving restrictions, the practical implications for users and manufacturers, and the outlook for the next renewal cycle.
A topic with direct operational relevance for anyone involved in plant protection, biocontrol and organic production — from regulatory affairs to agronomy and product development.
Topics covered
- ✓ Current approval status: Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/1981 and key conditions
- ✓ Dose limits: the 28 kg Cu/ha over 7 years rule — what it means in practice
- ✓ Ecotoxicological concerns: soil accumulation, earthworm toxicity and the environmental risk assessment
- ✓ The organic farming dimension: critical uses and the search for alternatives
- ✓ Member State authorisation variations and the patchwork of national conditions
